I know that most of you are enjoying a long, warm summer. Lucky you. Its winter here. Cold, dark, damp winter. And because we are so far south, winter is long. You think that I would be used to this by now, but I obviously am not, or it wouldn't phase me at all.
Note to self.
Wardrobe planning: Buy winter clothes.
I have a pretty evenly distributed wardrobe, but the truth is that the weather here is most definitely not evenly distributed. Its cold most of the time. Even in the dead of summer, I have to wear a sweater over my summery dresses.
Note to future missionaries. Check Accuweather before you confirm your calling!

The difference isn't quite so dramatic here in Taiwan. We just get summer three months early--which means our "spring" is exactly 1.2 weeks long. :)
The first three years here I would have some kind of unknown stress and culture frustration in March/April. I finally figured out it was the weather and the timing of events (ie. spring break in the States is at the same time as our 2nd semester starting). So it caused me stress on a level I wasn't even aware of.
So, even though part of your post is in jest . . . it is something that is TOTALLY relevant to share with new people coming onto the field.
You're right, it is relevant, and it does cause culture stress that may or may not affect you. Here, we have Christmas in the summer, and that is really weird. After 25 years here, and even considering the fact that I have lived here for most of my life, its still weird.
You´re right, climate plays a big role in culture shock or adjustments.
Many who come to our area in Spain don´t make it due to all the rain. It´s also cool almost year round.
I was thinking the other day that we were going to skip summer all together and go right to fall.
Hope you can get some warmer winter clothes.
Oh, I've got warm clothes, but I am sick and tired of them! And when I go Stateside, I see all the lovely cheap clothes, and the realize that they will not do well for our area. When we go on furlough, its to SoCal and the Southwest. You can buy short sleeved clothes all year round. I have just got to discipline myself to buy what I need!
