Submission

This is a topic that comes up too often in my life because I realize that I am not submissive by nature.
Here are a few things that I have learned, and am still trying to practice.
Submission sometimes means that I don't give my opinion, not even with a sigh or a face. If DH wanted my opinion, he would have asked. I say this because I am so opinionated.

Submission is true submission only when I disagree. Otherwise, I'm not submitting, I'm agreeing. Its true submission when he's wrong. Ahh, there it is! the hardest thing in the world to do! This hit me like a ton of bricks!

Now, you can say that a woman has the right to make her opinions known.
Well, yes and no. I say, follow the Spirit's leading when and if you want to make your opinion known. If you have been prudent in the past, I'm sure your Dh will appreciate your imput. If you have been like me, once he learns that you can shut up, he likes it!

Of course this has been a hard lesson and a long process which I am still in.
Once I win this battle with self, I'll let you know how it went!

Thank you for being so candid with your own struggle to be submissive. I am having the same struggle. Part of my struggle is my husband is also out of church so it has been hard for me to keep my mouth shut and let the Holy Spirit lead and not me.
I am glad there is Pastor's wives/Missionary wives that share their experiences with submission struggles.
Thanks
Carrie

Hello Rhonda! My name is Abbi and I attend LVBC in PA. :)

I, too, was intrigued by your point about how true submission is only that when we disagree. That is so true in every arena of life...whether it's submitting to an authority figure, or just keeping peace and unity among others. I never thought of it quite like that, but I have meditated on it several times since I first read this post. Thanks for sharing!

Yes...battle with self..lol been there.

I read a comment at homeliving helper where a woman said she was much more academic than her husband and that he had a low-importance job. She was trying to control her ego but wanted advice on encouraging her husband to have more get up and go.

I wish I had the eloquence or wisdom to advise her but I felt kind of sorry for the hubby who no doubt can sense her disappointment in him - this can't really be very encouraging at all.

I have seen that kind of situation before and it is difficult. A woman qhe acts dissapointed in her husband will most definitely be dissapointed!
But there must have been other things, things that she fell in love with. My DH isn't big on books as I am, but he has other skills that I don't. He can even juggle! The important thing is to not think too highly of oneself.

That's it. Love your hubby for who he is and pray for him.

I am of the opinionated personality as well. And this is my life lesson to apply too. Every day - every day.
Have you heard of the book "Confessions of an Honest Wife" by Sarah Zacharias Davis (Ravi's daughter) someone just sent me a copy and I am so intrigued.
