MORE ADDED AT THE END, Sunday Aug 6.
I read an article recommended by two of the bloggers I read. Its an article about homeschoolers and failure. I recognized a great deal of truth, but I found that, IMHO, basically his attitude is "Get rid of your pious convictions, because they are externals, and your kids will ditch them as soon as they can"
You can read it for yourself if you want to.
Now I'd like to recommend a series of articles by Michael Pearl called "Jumping Ship"
I personally love the Pearls and their ideas. If you don't like them, at least read this article and tell me why you disagree with it.
You know what Michael Pearl believes is one of the most important things a parent can do to tie strings of fellowship with his kids? Become the master of joy. A joyful parent can be what she needs to be to pass on her faith to her kids.

More thought on this:
The biggest difference in these two articles is the focus. The first seems to say, we've been wrong, too sheltering, too blind, too hipocritical. Change, lose your legalism or you'll lose your kids.
The second seemed to be more positive, praising God for the good that has come for many, many homeschoolers, and a warning to the true pharisees and legalists, not to change what they do, but change their attitude and focus.
You see, pharisees did all the right things, for the wrong reasons. We must still do right. We must not become desensitized to sin. We must not give in to worldly pleasures. But we must do it for the right reasons. Holy means set apart. Believe me, if you start to dress like the world, and watch what the world watches, you will start to think like the world, talk like the world, and act like the world. Bradley would have us become desensitized. He said so. I think we should constantly work at keeping our senses sensitive.

I don't agree with some of the Pearl's doctrine but I have read the entire 'Jumping Ship' articles and thought they were excellent!
I have not heard of the Pearls. I'll check them out.
The comment about "Get rid of our pious convictions, because they are externals, and your kids will ditch them as soon as they can" was really lame.
The Bible says to train them in the way they should go. If they ditch those convictions, they have to stand before the Lord for that. As a parent, we should be blameless in what we teach or don't teach our children because we will stand before the Lord too.

Hi Mrs. B,
There is so much to read on the internet that one must "eat the meat, spit out the bones" Know what I mean? I like 95 per cent of what the Pearls teach on family and kids.
Kristi, my dear,
you never heard of the Pearls?
I have a link on my sidebar. Check it out.

Hey Mrs.B and Kristi, Did you read the other article? I was just over at Crystal's and was surprised at how many endorsed it wholeheartedly. What did you think, honestly?

Rhonda: The article was REALLY long so I only skimmed it. I came away feeling the same way that you did, Rhonda, and was quite surprised at how many people thought it was a great article.
Although I shouldn't have been surprised....I've noticed that on most blogs if you have any kind of standards or convictions you are quickly labeled a 'legalist'.
As far as the Pearls go.....all the family and kids stuff I've read I think is excellent! Where I tend to disagree with them is their belief in sinless perfection and that you can lose your salvation.
You know Rhonda I just went and briefed the Jumping Ship article (it had been awhile since I read it) and he says a lot of the same things as the other article but for reasons that I can't explain I just like the Pearl's article better.
I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts Rhonda and others on this.
Rhonda:
If you'd like me to answer your question that you asked on my blog about the Pearls then you will need to give me your e-mail address. I've decided that I'd rather not do it on a blog.
Thanks!

Thank you Rhonda! You nailed the difference very well! I had a hard time figuring out what it was that didn't set right with me and you hit it on the head! Thanks!
Oh and I just e-mailed you.
Blessings
