The "List", part 2 Let's go to the Movies! Or not?

Next on the “List”, let’s check out going to the movies. Now, I figure that I’m getting myself into quite a controversy, oh well, a blogger must to do what a blogger must to do.

First and foremost, let’s look at what God has to say.

Psalm 101:3
3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

Ephesians 5:12
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

Job 31
1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

Romans 1:32
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
(emphasis mine)

Please remember that God hates: murder, fornication, public nudity, adultery, foul language, disobedience in children, disrespect in wives, abuse is husbands and fathers, homosexuality, and drunkenness, among other things.

Are we kidding ourselves? These things are what most movies are all about!

OK, so what’s in a movie? Here is where I find that out.

I was reading a blog the other day and the (Christian) writer was saying how thrilled she was to be going to see Will Farrell’s latest movie.
Let’s see what this movie is all about.
?????!!!!!!!!!

Some have suggested that we are hypocrites because we watch things at home on TV. If you are watching the same garbage at home that you would at the theatre, then I would have to agree.
At our house, we have a remote control, and we know how to use it. We also have a cuss box to remove most, if not all foul language.

What about TV?
I believe the same reasoning applies. A friend of mine once told me how that she loves to watch “Friends”. Huh? Please read this. Why, oh why would a child of God ever delight in this?

Our pastor has a saying. “Hollywood hates your God” Its true.

Would my precious Jesus enjoy Hollywood’s latest? Most likely, no. Why should I?

"Psalm 101:3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes."
This is why we do not have a TV, go to the movies or watch any DVD other than G-rated. Sometimes, even those are off the list. If I will not allow it in my home or participate in it myself, I'm not about to bring it in via a TV or seek it out via the movies. Romans 6:12-13 We have a choice. Let's please God.

Oh Rhonda! You've hit me in my soft spot! Movies! *inner groan*

I liky-like movies although we do subscribe to Plugged in and I check questionable movies on-line. Still . . .

Let me up it one step further. My aunt (also missionary, with a gift of discerment, my mentor and spiritual mother to me)will go so far as to say that monsters of any sort (cookie monster, Hulk, aliens or worse) are distortions of what God created.

These scary, distorted or ugly faces then are created by artist and she asks me "Where do you think their getting ideas for these faces?" She believes that real spiritual faces are being replcated in "cartoons" or media art and being glorified. I can't discount her.

This is our dicotomy then: both my hubby and I don't like Seseme Street anymore becuase of the monsters, yet I am still guilty of liking me some Star Trek!

I believe that God is still working on both of us. Working on our sensitivity with His Holy Spirit. Where before my hubby LOVED war movies, without my prompting he is watching less and less because they usually are so crass and ugly - they are starting to offend his spirit.

And where I was (gasp) as a young girl (11) a fan of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" God has brought me a LONG WAYS from there. And My hubby and I both feel strongly about NOT watching ANY movies that feel occultish, and there are several out there "Constantine" to name one.

And yes, KUDOS to you for bringing these topics up.

I agaree so thoroughly. I wrote on this subject when I first started blogging - I called it "I Am a Condor" - I think it was in July, maybe June, when I first started. Check it out if you have time.

I hope things are going well with the subject of last week.

Thank you all for your kind comments. These were things that I needed to say, but don't always have the freedom to do so.

Saying it to, will also keep me sharp, and I pray that I never become desensitized to filth.

BTW, have any of you seen Time Changer? If you haven't I recommend it!
